About the Project
Project Overview
The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is constructing a shared use pedestrian/bicycle path between Whitmore Village and the Wahiawa Transit Center to serve as a multimodal connector between the two locations.
The purpose of the pedestrian and bicycle path is to create a dedicated non-vehicular access route between residential locations and places of employment and education in Wahiawa. The Project need and scope have been defined as the result of community priorities, recommendations outlined in long-range community and master plans, and community meetings, aimed at:
- Creating a multi-modal system that reduces congestion in Central Oahu
- Designing communities to reduce automobile usage by providing easy access to transit
- Encouraging alternative modes of travel by providing bikeways for recreational activities and trips to work areas, schools, shopping centers and community facilities
Project Scope
Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. is responsible for the design, permitting and construction of the shared use pedestrian/bicycle path between Whitmore Village and Wahiawa Town.
The Project consists of, but is not limited to:
- Constructing a new pedestrian walkway that includes a pedestrian/bicyclist bridge over Kiikii stream,
- Drainage analysis and construction of drainage facilities
- Grading
- Construction of retaining walls
- Installation of chain link fencing railings and gates
- Path lighting, pavement marking and signs
- Landscaping
